Exhibition on Printing Culture in Zhejiang
Human civilization has known oral transmission, then pictographic inscription, and the formation of phonetic and semantic writing. After the birth of writing, the human spirit in its diffusion breaks the mediation of time and space, and allows the recording of knowledge and techniques that perpetuate the diffusion to reach the domains of the written inscription, to build books and documents. The diffusion of knowledge has even more imposed high demands on the reproduction of the book, the technical revolutions inducing that the latter of the unique handwritten copy of a model develops until printing in numbers on engraved wooden board. The mature xylographic printing techniques were being used on a large scale, becoming a huge driving force in the progress of civilization.
